Tony would insist that it wasn't so bad, if only to spare himself the pity. He never wanted pity, but a bite to eat from a generous stranger every now and then wasn't so bad.
When Dirk turned away Tony fell into step just behind and off to the side, not out of sight as a gesture of good will. To show that he was keeping his hands to himself, he had no intentions of making Dirk regret his offer after all.
"Anthony. And hey... thanks."
For feeding him, for not calling for help and getting him arrested. Hell stopping and talking to him, it was a level of kindness he rarely saw from people. Being in his position it wasn't often strangers met him with kindness and sympathy.
